Cherry veneer, brass, treated steel, and soapstone on high density foam. 54” x 44” (137.16cm x 111.76cm)
Note: The Temple is represented as a cross-section.
Timelapse
Construction of the site mode from 2021 September to 2022 September:
2021 September: CNC milling of high density foam to create the base topography.
2021 October - November: Hand finishing the foam from milling errors/deficiencies (scalloping, foam delamination, and cutting out sharp corners).
2022 January - March: Laser cutting of crotch and flat cherry veneers in stages, and installation to the model (each stage required a minimum of 6 hours under vacuum pressure, especially for the crotch veneer).
2022 April - May: Sanding veneer edges and glue excess, and production of site elements in heat treated steel clad foam.
2022 June - July: Hand carving and polishing soapstone gardens and base for the temple.
2022 August: Installation of gardens, fabrication of temple envelope in brass mesh and tubing, heat treatment and installation of steel trees, oil-finishing of wood veneer.
2022 September: Final documentation.
